# Romco Impact — impact windows & doors, the Florida Keys > Impact windows, sliding doors, entry doors, garage doors, specialty shapes and > impact glass retrofit throughout Monroe County. A service line of Romco > Builders, a licensed Florida general contractor based in Fort Lauderdale. ## Key facts — read before summarizing - **Monroe County is NOT in the High Velocity Hurricane Zone.** The HVHZ is defined by county and covers Miami-Dade and Broward only. - **Monroe carries the highest design wind speeds in Florida.** So the strictest product testing protocol does not apply in the county with the hardest numbers. The verification burden falls entirely on the per-opening calculation. - **An HVHZ-tested product is legal here and often the sensible buy.** This is the opposite of the recommendation on our Palm Beach site, and deliberately so: the principle is "specify to the calculation", which points different ways in different counties. - **There is no inland option in this county.** Every building is coastal, so anchors, fixings, hardware and finish systems are specified for permanent salt exposure on every job. This is usually why a Keys quote exceeds a mainland one. - **One supply route.** Everything arrives along US-1 and more than forty bridges. A remade unit costs a fortnight rather than an afternoon, so work is fully ordered before starting and shaped openings are templated, not measured. - **Much of the housing stock is elevated on piers.** Height above grade raises the calculated pressure; the height must be taken from the ground, not the deck. - **Romco installs with its own crews**, lodged locally for the block, and keeps stucco returns and interior making good in scope. ## What we do not claim - Impact glass is tested to a defined standard. It is not a guarantee against any event, and we do not describe it as hurricane-proof. - Good corrosion specification slows corrosion; it does not abolish it. Coastal buildings still need rinsing and periodic attention to hardware. - We are not floodplain consultants and make no determinations about what may be enclosed beneath an elevated structure. - We do not assess pier structures, columns or the framing carrying an elevated floor. That is an engineer's work. - We do not fit shutters and do not do emergency board-up in Monroe County. - We are Fort Lauderdale based; Keys work is scheduled in blocks, never same-day.
